If you’re going to Faial for more than just a day (which you absolutely should!), Casa Espalamaca is an amazing place to spend your holiday. Honestly, we were calmed down from normal life in just a day! The place itself is brand new and just really well done. Everything felt high quality and comfortable, not like some tired rental.
But the absolute best part is the view. It’s truly spectacular. You have this incredible, wide-open lookout right over the Horta Marina and the giant volcano of Pico Island is staring back at you. We spent hours just drinking coffee on the terrace or hanging in the whirlpool, watching the ferries and boats go by. It was totally worth it just for those views.
The whole island of Faial is gorgeous, and staying here made exploring so easy. Sven is most welcoming and has a great oldtimer bus to tour the island. It just felt like the perfect, relaxed home base. If you want comfort and views that stop you in your tracks, this is the spot. We loved it and are looking forward to coming back!

Die Casa Espalamaca ist ein ganz besonderes Zuhause auf Zeit. Sie wurde in den letzten Jahren mit viel Liebe zum Detail, hochwertigen Materialien und luxuriöser Einrichtung und Ausstattung neu auf- und ausgebaut.

Was mich am nachhaltigsten beeindruckt hat:

Die exklusive Lage mit unbeschreiblich fantastischen Ausblicken auf den Pico auf der gegenüberliegenden Insel Pico, den Atlantik, den Hafen von Horta und über die Insel Faial selbst, Sonnenaufgänge, Sonnenuntergänge, dem Himmel ganz nah sein

Die vielfältigen Möglichkeiten die das Haus und auch das große und liebevoll angelegte und gepflegte Grundstück bieten, gemütliches Zusammensein oder auch die Ruhe ganz alleine genießen. Ein Lagerfeuer mit Stil, Yoga auf einer der Terrassen, Sauna mit Ausblick auf Horta und den Hafen…etc.

Die Natur 💙💚🦋 Spektakulär, wunderschön, erdend, die Weite, das Grün und Blau, die Vulkane. Ich fühle mich dort wie in einer anderen Welt. Ein privater Bootsausflug mit Svens Boot, eine Wanderung über den Rand des höchsten Vulkans der Insel, Wanderungen über die Klippen…

Ich war zwei Wochen mit Freunden dort. Die Gastgeber der Casa Espalamaca richten sich nach den individuellen Wünschen der Gäste aus und organisieren auf Wunsch alles, was möglich ist. Das war fantastisch! So konnten wir nach Lust und Laune und je nach Wetterlage entscheiden, ob wir etwas unternehmen wollten oder einfach das Haus und den Ort genießen.

I had a wonderful stay at Casa Espalamaca on Faial Island and can’t recommend it enough. The location is breathtaking, with beautiful views in every direction, and the amenities really make the place special.

The sauna with a cold plunge was a highlight and a surprisingly refreshing first sauna experience. The hot tub sits on the edge of the hill with incredible views and was perfect after a day of exploring. We also enjoyed the outdoor BBQ overlooking the city and harbor, and the firepit was great for relaxing in the evenings.

Inside, the house feels luxurious but very comfortable. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, and the living room stands out with a well stocked bar, a huge modular sofa, a large projector screen, and a great sound system, making it ideal for movie nights.

We stayed as a group of seven, and everyone was accommodated comfortably with plenty of space.

Faial Island is stunning, and this stay made it easy to disconnect and recharge. With the views and amenities, you could easily spend your whole trip just enjoying the property. I can’t wait to come back!

Casa Espalamaca ist ein außergewöhnlich schöner, hochwertiger und mit viel Liebe zum Detail gestalteter Rückzugsort mitten in der Natur. Man spürt in jeder Ecke, dass diese Unterkunft mit Herz, Geschichte und großer Sorgfalt neu erschaffen wurde – nichts ist zufällig, alles erzählt seine eigene kleine Geschichte. ☺️
Ein Ort mit echtem Wohlfühlfaktor für Körper und Seele, der sofort entschleunigt und den Alltag vergessen lässt. Der Eigentümer ist herzlich, humorvoll und unglaublich gastfreundlich, ebenso das Team im Hintergrund.
Der Ausblick ist magisch! Die Tipps für Ausflüge auf der Insel sind großartig, und auch die Möglichkeit, die Nachbarinsel Pico zu besuchen, macht den Aufenthalt besonders.
Ein absolut herzens­empfehlenswerter Ort – ruhig, inspirierend, hochwertig und einfach grandios. Herzlichen Dank an den Eigentümer!

Every creature comfort was taken care of and exceeded expectations, and the views were absolutely amazing!

Our last evening was particularly special — relaxing in the jacuzzi and by the fire pit under the stars after Tara’s delicious home-cooked Nepalese momos.

A stay we’ll remember fondly.

A Casa Espalamaca foi simplesmente incrível! Desde o momento da chegada, sentimos uma hospitalidade genuína e um cuidado em cada detalhe. A localização é perfeita, com vistas maravilhosas que nos fazem apreciar ainda mais a beleza natural dos Açores.
O espaço é acolhedor, confortável, muito bem cuidado e oferece bastante privacidade, o que torna a estadia ainda mais especial. O ambiente tranquilo permite relaxar e desligar do mundo, mas sempre com todas as comodidades necessárias por perto.

Fomos sem planos.
Sem mapas, sem roteiros, sem promessas.
Levamos só os pés e a alma aberta.
E foi assim, com as mãos vazias e o coração desprevenido, que o Faial nos agarrou pela respiração e não largou mais.

Nunca esperamos tanto de um lugar que nem sabíamos que queríamos.
Chegamos como quem passa, mas ficámos como quem encontra.
O mar ali é tão azul que dói.
Não é só cor, é sentimento.
É o tipo de azul que parece ter memória, que guarda histórias, que reflete olhares antigos e sonhos perdidos.
E nós, pequenos, parados à beira do mundo, a ver o Atlântico brincar de infinito.

E o pôr do sol… ah, o pôr do sol!
Aquele céu em chamas sobre o vulcão, como se a terra tivesse decidido mostrar ao céu como se incendeia uma alma.
Cada raio era uma palavra que eu não sabia dizer.
Cada sombra, uma música que nunca tinhamos ouvido.
E ali, naquela fronteira entre o ar e o mar, o tempo parou.
E nós ficámos.

Sem dúvida, um lugar especial que recomendo a quem procura uma experiência autêntica e memorável nos Açores. Voltaremos certamente!
